If these guys can do this, you can handle a short swim in Lake Tahoe! (Sign up forms are under events!) Dispatch does not actually fire until about :55 seconds into the movie. What you hear before that is a 28' Garwood in front of her with a V-12 Scripps Motor. The noise prior to the firing is the oil pressure pump. 1931 Gar Wood Triple Cockpit Runabout Gar Wood 33-foot triple cockpit runabouts are considered some of the finest runabouts produced by the famous boatbuilding firm in Marysville, MI. Elegant and powerful, these crafts were offered with either a Scripps V-12 or a Gar Wood Liberty V-12 engine and were capable of exceeding 50 mph. Manufactured in 1931, the runabout has a 650-horsepower, 12-cylinder Rolls Royce engine. Named Dispatch, she is owned by Tom and Maurine Turner of Carnelian Bay, CA. Her Lake Tahoe berth is next to Turner's Gar Woods Grill and Pier Restaurant. North Shore Nights takes place every Friday in the bar from 6:30-9:30 pm immediately following Happy Hour. Local resorts as well as retail and liquor sponsors have partnered with us once again to offer awesome prizes, raffled every 30 minutes, including: Lift Tickets, Porter's Gear, Big Mack Charter Fishing Passes, Gift Certificates, Native Eyewear, Lakeview Threads Logowear, Snowbomb Tahoe Gold Cards & Swag- and a Grand Prize every week (usually a Snowboard, but it could be Skis, a Toboggan, or maybe even a new Ski Jacket)! Each year hundreds of spectators line the pier and deck to watch hardy souls brave the frigid waters of Lake Tahoe. Participants swim approximately 250 yards in 39 degree bone chilling water before returning to Gar Woods Bar to minimize their pain. With any luck there will be hot tubs to warm their bodies after the swim. Free appetizers are provided to all following the swim and the event is capped off with a hugely popular raffle in the bar. |
