I am the Earth And the Earth is me. Each blade of grass, Each honey tree, Each bit of mud, And stick and stone Is blood and muscle, Skin and bone.
And just as I Need every bit Of me to make My body fit, So Earth needs Grass and stone and tree And things that grow here Naturally.
That’s why we Celebrate this day. That’s why across The world we say: As long as life, As dear, as free, I am the Earth And the Earth is me.
Earth Day by Jane Yolen
On Saturday March 1, only the bravest of the brave plunged into freezing cold 39 degree Lake Tahoe to vie for the first place spot in the annual Polar Bear Swim. A grueling 250 meters later it appeared as though the race that mattered most to the swimmers was the one that landed them in the 104 degree hot tubs. Congratulations to all of those who participated! Visit our Facebook page to view the full album of photos. See you next year, polar bears!
March 1st, 2014 marks the 25th Annual Polar Bear Swim at Gar Woods Grill & Pier. Hundreds line the pier and deck at Gar Woods in Carnelian Bay, to watch hardy souls brave the frigid water of Lake Tahoe. Brrrrrr.

Carnelian Bay, California (February 4, 2014) – Tahoe Restaurant Collection (Gar Woods, Riva Grill, Caliente and Bar of America) is expanding its marketing presence and scope in Lake Tahoe and Truckee with the addition of Kimberly Moore to the management team. A native of Tahoe City, a veteran employee of Gar Woods spanning seven summers, and a graduate of North Tahoe High, Kimberly is no stranger to the area or the hospitality business. She will serve as Director of Marketing on the North Shore after earning her Bachelor of Science in Marketing at the University of Arizona and working in the field for two years with Sony DADC and Capital Fund 1 in Arizona. She looks forward to applying her experience, knowledge of the industry, and love of Lake Tahoe to her new position, and enhancing community awareness of the restaurant group’s activities.
“Kimberly is perfectly suited for this new position. As our company continues to grow, we want to make sure we are communicating with and listening to our customers, and maintaining our presence in the community. Kimberly is a great fit and we are thrilled to have her back working with us”, said Amy Grigsby, Group Sales Manager at Gar Woods.
Kimberly will bring a fresh perspective to Tahoe Restaurant Collection’s marketing efforts, with a focus on social media campaigns, face-to-face networking in the community and in-house special event promotions. She is thrilled to be home, closer to family, the mountains and lake, and is anxious to dive into her new role.
“I love my new position. It is great to be home and I am eager to be active in this community again. I really don’t feel like I’m ever “at work” because I love being out in the community talking with people and promoting all the great events we have going on at our restaurants”.

About Tahoe Restaurant Collection (TRC)
The company’s flagship restaurant, Gar Woods Grill & Pier, was founded in 1988, and is located on the north shore of Lake Tahoe in picturesque Carnelian Bay. Riva Grill is located in South Lake Tahoe at Ski Run Marina and opened its doors in 1998. Gar Woods and Riva Grill are both home of the famous “Wet Woody®” signature frozen rum drink. Caliente Southwest South, located in Kings Beach, opened in 2007 and features a seasonal rooftop deck and Palapa Bar, with an extensive tequila menu. Bar of America occupies a prime corner in historic downtown Truckee and was acquired by TRC in 2012. This iconic restaurant and bar will celebrate 40 years in business in 2014. The “Chupacabra” at Caliente and soon-to-be famous “Cock-tail” at Bar of America carry on the tradition of the Wet Woody with a tequila and whiskey twist, respectively.
USA Today named South Lake Tahoe the #1 ski destination in North America and North Lake Tahoe was Ranked #3!
